Carl Martin Blomstrom (78) died October 27th, 2023, in Waterbury, Connecticut.

Born January 11th, 1945, to Josephine Survila and Oscar Blomstrom.  Carl lived his young life in Walpole, MA, with his three siblings:  Loretta (dec.), Patricia, and Anna, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins nearby. And they all spent many wonderful years at the family’s vacation home up at the “farm” in Ossipee, NH.

Carl was an industrious young man. He was a top performer with Junior Achievement, graduated from Walpole High School in 1962, and attended Wentworth Institute of Technology. He played the accordion and loved music and architecture. Carl was an ardent gardener with the greenest of thumbs and took great pride in feeding anyone his bounty.  He was a member of Mensa and an avid bowler for many years.

Carl met Claire Sands (dec.) in 1964, who he married in Mansfield, MA.  They spent their entire adult lives together until Claire’s death in 2005. They moved to Waterbury, CT early in their lives to start a business where they raised their five children: Amanda, Carl Jr. (dec.), Eric, Mark and Glen. Forever proud of his children, touting them as “his greatest accomplishments,” his highest priority was always their education and enrichment, and it was often at great sacrifice to be able to pay for all their schooling. With their father's encouragement, all the kids traveled often and lived in various places, most still living in CT.  Although a bit of a workaholic, Carl was incredibly supportive of all his family's interests and was at all the children's activities, from sports games to musical performances to scouting events. He was joyfully “Pop-Pop” and “Grandpa” to Amanda’s two children: Parker and Hannah and Glen’s three children: Ethan, Jude, and Amelie.

Carl was strong-willed, intelligent, and stubborn, with an enormous heart and dry sense of humor. He was generous to a fault, loyal, and a perfectionist. His favorite motto: “Do it right or don’t do it all,” was a great life lesson for his children and for those he mentored in the construction industry. Another saying he was fond of was: “Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”  He helped instill his values of industriousness and philanthropy to all his children, a legacy which will persist forevermore. Carl was clever and filled with knowledge gained through his life experiences: ironworker, roofer, and construction business owner - he could fix or build anything and shared his skills without reservation.  He will be missed dearly by all. “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard,” said Winnie the Pooh.
